It has begun!

I've been Sun Peaks’ first Snow Bum for the last 72 hours and I'm totally overwhelmed with the experience so far. Everyone here is treating me really well; I'm afraid I'll get used to it and won't be able to get back to my normal life when winter is over!

Monday, when I got off the plane on that snowy and foggy January 4th afternoon, there was a welcome committee at the airport including a ton of local media. And guess what?  Nancy Greene, Canada's female athlete of the 20th century was there! What a responsibility!!!

Yesterday was gorgeous: bluebird sky and fresh snow. Early in the morning I went to local Jardines ski shop, picked up some fatty Salomon skis and boots, outerwear courtesy of Orage and goggles courtesy of Oakley. Thanks to Toyoko, Nick and Al from Jardines for hooking me up with all the new gear. Then I got my pass and hit the slopes!

My first impression? The place is huge, the terrain is varied and the snow here is also made from water... but it's fluffy and dry!!!

In the evening was the official Snow Bum Welcome Party at Masa's Bar + Grill, it was a chance for me to get to know all the locals I'll be skiing and hanging around with over the next three months. Thanks for everyone who came, and for those who couldn't make it, let's arrange to ski together sometime soon! Just look for me in the bright yellow pants and red jacket.

The evening ended with the Locals Night at Bottoms Bar and Grill. Nice people, laid back atmosphere and real big partying! But think twice before ringing the bell!

Cheers!

the Snow Bum

Did you ring the bell you silly boy! That would make a small dent in your expenses.

Off you go, Thiago!! That's awesome to hear news of your arrival and first impressions of Sun Peaks. I can't wait to visit there. Meanwhile, I will be there through your eyes, through your blog.
